Great BBQ recipe for a crowd! The recipe uses a beef roast vs ground beef. A nice chuck roast works well with this recipe as it tends to leave you with a nice tender and juicy BBQ! You can make this ahead and then reheat in a crockpot to keep it warm.

Ingredients

  • 5-6 pound roast – chuck or sirloin

  • 2 Tablespoon oil

  • 1 large onion – chopped

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 2 cloves garlic whole

  • 14 ounces of ketchup

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 teaspoon dry mustard

  • 1/2 cup vinegar

  • 2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon Ascent

  • 2 Tablespoon brown sugar

Directions

  • Heat a Dutch oven on stove top on high heat. When the pan is hot, add oil. Sear all sides of the roast to a nice brown color.
  • Combine remaining ingredients and add to pot. Bring to a soft boil.
  • Cover and reduce heat to low. Cook for 5 hours.
  • Remove beef from pot and shred meat. Since the roast will most likely be a thick cut of beef, you can chop the shredded meat in half length to make it easier to eat. Return meat to pot with liquids and stir until all combined.
  • Season with additional salt and pepper if needed.

Notes

  • You can also serve this BBQ over Cheesy Grits and top with shredded cheese!
