This dish is fun to serve! It looks impressive plated and has such great flavors! Don’t be concerned about the amount of dry rub on the drumsticks as they blend so well with the glaze!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of drumsticks

  • 1 cup BBQ rub – I used bought but you could find a recipe for a BBQ rub easily

  • Honey Bourbon Glaze
  • 1/2 cup bourbon

  • 1/2 cup ketchup

  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar

  • 1/4 cup honey

  • 2 tablespoon Dijon mustard

  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar

Directions

  • Prep drumsticks by cutting off knuckle on drumstick off tip and cutting across the base of the drumstick so it stands up. You won’t have to cut much off the base to have it sit upright. Then go down about an inch from the tip and cut around the drumstick just above the meat. Pull this 1 inch area of skin and tendons off the bone.
  • To make the Honey Bourbon Glaze, combine all the glaze ingredients in a small saucepan and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Preheat grill to 375 degrees.
  • Place rub in a flat dish. Roll all drumsticks in the rub. Place drumstick on the grill on the flat side so it stands up. Cook for about 20 to 30 minutes until internal temperature is 165 degrees.
  • Dunk each drumstick in the glaze and stand them up on the grill until the sauce has caramelized, about 10 minutes. Drumsticks are ready to plate and serve!

Notes

  • Now it is time to give credit where it is due. This recipe is from The Kitchen on Food network. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/jeff-mauro/honey-bourbon-chicken-pops-8873530.
  • I did try this recipe with a different BBQ sauce, but the one above is still my favorite because of all the flavor with the rub first and the bourbon glaze.
