Ingredients
1 large Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and cut into 8 wedges.
1 can refrigerated crescent rolls (8 pieces)
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup of sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 small can of ginger ale, Sprite or Mountain Dew
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a square 9×9 baking dish.
- Separate crescent dough into the 8 triangles. Place the apple wedge on the wide end of the triangle and roll up, pinching close any edges so the apple is tucked nicely into the dough. Transfer into the baking dish.
- Melt butter. Stir in sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg (optional).
- Pour over the dough making sure to cover all the dough.
- Pour soda along the side of the pan vs directly over the dumplings so the crescent tops bake with a nice crust.
- Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until golden brown. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Reheat left over dumplings, if you happen to have any, in the oven. It won’t take long, but will help in returning some of the crispiness to the dumpling. Serve with the homemade vanilla icecream you made in the morning!
