Ingredients
2- 16 oz cans of tart cherries, drained
1 1/3 cups sugar
1/3 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon almond flavor
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 Tbsp butter
Directions
- Combine ingredients. Add to pie shell and dot with butter.
- Add top pie crust.
- Brush with egg white wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- Bake in 425 degree oven until golden. Cover edge crust with foil during the cooking time to prevent from overcooking.
Notes
- Make sure your cherries are at room temperature. I made the mistake of pitting my sour cherries and popping them in the fridge until I was ready to make the pie. My cherry filling did not come up to the needed temperature to thicken the sauce when the crust was done.
