This cherry pie was confirmed to be delicious by friends that are connoisseurs for sour cherry pies!

Ingredients

  • 2- 16 oz cans of tart cherries, drained

  • 1 1/3 cups sugar

  • 1/3 cup flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon almond flavor

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

  • 2 Tbsp butter

Directions

  • Combine ingredients. Add to pie shell and dot with butter.
  • Add top pie crust.
  • Brush with egg white wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  • Bake in 425 degree oven until golden. Cover edge crust with foil during the cooking time to prevent from overcooking.

Notes

  • Make sure your cherries are at room temperature. I made the mistake of pitting my sour cherries and popping them in the fridge until I was ready to make the pie. My cherry filling did not come up to the needed temperature to thicken the sauce when the crust was done.
