Ingredients

  • 5 slices bacon

  • 1 pound chuck or steak cut into 1 inch pieces

  • 2 large onions chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic finely chopped

  • 2 – 15 oz cans beef broth

  • 2 cups water

  • 1/4 cup barley

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon paprika

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon caraway seeds

  • 1/8 teaspoon marjoram

  • 3 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped

  • 2 medium carrots, peeled and sliced

  • 1 – 16 ounce can stewed or diced tomatoes

  • 1 – 10 ounce package frozen peas

  • 1 – 4 ounce can mushroom pieces

Directions

  • Fry bacon. Remove from pan.
  • Cook beef, onion and garlic in bacon fat over medium high heat until meat browned and onions translucent.
  • Stir in broth, water, barley, paprika, salt, caraway seed, and marjoram. Simmer for 90 minutes.
  • Add remaining ingredients except bacon and cook an additional 30-40 minutes.
  • Add in bacon and serve!
